Remove A Broken Key With 3 Common Tips

Sometime bad things happen and you can find yourself in a situation where your key gets stuck inside your lock and snap.

It is a quite distressing situation especially if you just came back home late at night from work and can’t get inside.

It’s important not to make any bigger mistake and try to open the door with the broken key because if you do by pushing the broken piece further into the lock you can completely destroy it.

Our Best advice is to call immediately for help from a certified locksmith but if you still want to deal with it by yourself here are 3 ways you can try to overcome this situation

Tweezers & Needle Nose Pliers

One method you can try if part of the key is visible outside of the lock is using tweezers or needle nose pliers.

Even though these tools may not fit directly into the keyhole you can grip onto the part of key that stick out and carefully pull it out. Being patience is absolutely the key to successes.

Using Bobby Pins

Another option is to use 2 bobby pins which surprisingly can come in handy for this kind of situation.

Insert the bobby pin gently into the key hole on its top side of the broken piece and another pin on the other side and apply gentle pressure while wiggling them forward to extract the broken piece.

A Jigsaw Blade

A jigsaw blade when inserted into the keyhole with its teeth facing downward can often release the broken piece of the key and catch onto the key groove to pull it out.

If you’re not successful on your first try don’t give up so quickly and try at least couple more times.

If you’re not succeeding to remove the broken key it’s strongly advisable to call locksmith as they have years of experience and can definitely do it and save your lock, also they will be able to cut a new key for you.
